Kitchen of the Year New Kitchen over $55,000
Interview with Tania Nikolistsis , JAG Designer
Was the project a renovation or new home?
An existing Heritage Home however the kitchen was incorporated into a substantial extension…
What do you love about the kitchen?
Everything . . .!
When I saw the architectural plans of the home I knew this had the scope to deliver something very minimalist and cutting edge. I thrive on the challenge when clients set the benchmark high!
What makes it special?
There are so many ‘specials’ . . .
The unique ‘wrap-around’ look where walls disappear and hidden secrets exist such as dry bar area, integrated appliances and wall panelling leading into both laundry and Butler’s area are definitely a wow factor for me. An extended island at 4.6m sits proportional to a perfect backdrop and lends itself to functionality in many ways. I particularly like the sleekness of the moody black working in conjunction with the rich timber finishes.
How does it integrate with the home?
The finishes harmonize well with engineered sound elements of the home such as dramatic sandstone walls and Spanish ‘inky’ brickwork. The extended island and open plan design are non-obtrusive and allow the room to pleasantly intermingle with main living, dining and even outdoor areas. The ‘Marmi Statuario’, porcelain splashback that resembles natural marble is an heirship that recognizes and honors the ancestry of the existing home.
What do you enjoy about design?
It’s life changing! People don’t really know what they’re missing until they are given an opportunity to have it! Being able to help people in exploring ways to better their lifestyles is a real privilege and what I love about what I do.
